Mr. Lu is a graduate engineer and has excellent experience from both his Co-Op engineering program and from the work assignments he has undertaken since graduation. He utilizes his solid engineering skills to undertake analysis of complicated project and construction management issues. In addition to his theoretical skills, he has developed good practices for review and analysis including preparing and organizing project documentation, undertaking CPM schedule analysis, preparing data analysis to determine patterns and inflection points, developing graphical timelines, preparing informative graphics and related spreadsheet development and analysis. He has worked on a variety of engineering and construction consulting projects including HVAC analysis, Geothermal system evaluations, energy use and efficiency evaluations. His areas of expertise include CPM schedule analysis and delay evaluation, labor inefficiencies and Standard-of-Care design assessments. Mr. Lu is proficient in the following software programs: Trane Trace Energy Analysis, Primavera Project Planner, Net Point, Ansys, Flo-therm (Basic), Pro Engineer, SolidEdge (Basics), AutoCAD 2006, Labview and Maple.
Huntsman Refinery, Port Arthur, TX
Assisted in document review and graphics development regarding the fire rebuild of the facility. Investigated and analyzed the construction processes utilized to determine if the incurred costs and as-built schedule duration required for the re-build were justified in accordance with estimating and scheduling practices.
Wellsboro High School, Wellsboro, PA
Assisted in the review and analysis of the overall building energy performance. Developed the air balance diagram for the project. Evaluated the original air balance report of the overall building and analyzed the cost and history of energy bills to prepare an economic analysis to determine the future and present costs and impacts of various proposed and actual changes implemented throughout the building.
CDM, Southbridge, MA
Assisted in the review and analysis of an Engineering firm’s performance of construction phase services according to the Standard of Care of a Design Professional. Also, created graphically displayed schedule impacts relative to claim issues and other project related graphics.
Water Treatment Plant, Del Rio, TX
Assisted in the investigation and analysis of alleged design defects in the plant. Developed the friction factors and Reynolds number data to allow for the subsequent pumping and piping system analysis of the two pump stations supplying water for the treatment plant. Reviewed drawings and field data to prepare graphical presentations of the results of the analysis.
Commercial Brew Pub and Restaurant, PA
Investigated and analyzed the HVAC system failures, HVAC system sizing calculations and energy analysis using the Trane TRACE program to determine the proper sizing and system configuration. Compared the output to the installed HVAC systems in the brew pub and restaurant to assist in the determination of the required corrective work. The facility was also experiencing erratic temperatures and high humidity levels throughout the restaurant areas making the continued operation of the facility difficult and costly.
High School , PA
Investigation and analysis of the building’s chilled water system configuration and operation as part of the overall HVAC system. Researched chiller equipment design history and manufacturer’s data to determine failure modes of the system. Recovered and analyzed data from the DVL data system to collect pertinent event parameters and to determine the failure times and related incidents.
Elementary School, PA
Assisted in the site visit and inspection of the school to prepare a roof failure analysis due to water ponding and ingress through the roof membrane. Assisted in the design of the new roof drainage system to overcome the roof leaks and prepared the plan and bid drawings of the potential piping routing and layout of the roof CAD drawings necessary for the start of construction work.
Condominium Development, New Jersey
Underground investigation concerning settlement, structural systems failure and compromised soil conditions. The project utilized wooden pilings and was constructed on contaminated soil. Prepared and field-verified the remediation boring locations utilizing a CAD drawing. Also performed field visit to collect data concerning the site underground and environmental conditions affecting the use and settlement of significant structures. Observed and recorded data concerning the test boring to characterize the underground soil and contamination conditions.
Public Construction Project, Philadelphia
Conducted site visits to determine and status the completion of foundation work in order to develop a new completion schedule and project. Inspected defective foundation work and assisted in the determination of remediation efforts to repair or replace foundation structures. Developed a Canvas graphic showing the site progress, required remediation work and status of the foundation work.
