Client Name: Stone & Webster Engineering Corporation
MDC Systems® was retained to review the overall project to determine the potential claims and to estimate costs for possible recovery from the owner, as well as to review and evaluate subcontractor claims. MDC Systems® performed investigative and analysis work both on-site in Saudi Arabia, and in MDC Systems®’s home office.
Bugshan Stone & Webster, the Saudi Arabian business entity of Stone & Webster, undertook a contract for ARAMCO for the detailed engineering, procurement and construction of upgrades to the utilities for the Ras Tanura refinery, one of the world’s largest. Other contractors performed upgrades to the process systems.
The claims by and against our client involved the consequences of defective preliminary engineering provided to our client by Aramco, that caused substantial delays and acceleration of the work, resulting in significantly increased costs to the project. Other issues involved included unforeseen concealed conditions and engineering changes mandated by ARAMCO.
MDC Systems® completed its detailed investigation of the history of the project, performed analysis of issues and of the project schedule, and prepared a detailed report that was presented to the parties. MDC Systems® participated in presentations, negotiations, and an international arbitration.
